As a physio with a passion for women and their health, I provide compassionate, evidence-based care that is tailored to your unique needs.
Women’s Health is one of my special interests. I assist with various pelvic floor dysfunctions in women only.
Pelvic dysfunctions affect roughly a third of women and Physio forms part of managing these conditions conservatively by:
- Comprehensively assessing the patient to get all the details about the condition, history, and how it has affected daily life.
- Assessing your body for function and to establish factors contributing to your dysfunction.
- Putting a treatment plan in place, taking into consideration your goals.
- Empowering women and promoting better pelvic function.
CLINICAL PILATES
Clinical Pilates is used by many Physiotherapists for rehabilitation as it encourages normal movement patterns, correct muscle activation, helps to restore and maintain muscle flexibility and joint range of motion. It is goal orientated and focused on holistic well being. Pilates is great for our body, it can be adjusted to meet all our needs. It helps us to become aware of our body, our breathing and those deeper stabilizing muscles that support us during movement.
Physiotherapist’s Role in Clinical Pilates:
- Assessment and Customization: A physiotherapist will first comprehensively assess the patient’s condition, mobility, pain levels, physical limitations and goals, then design a personalized Pilates program taking into account any previous injuries or conditions.
- Supervision: Ensuring that exercises are performed correctly is critical in preventing injury and maximizing benefits. As the patient progresses, the exercises are adjusted to match their healing and ability to increase strength, flexibility, and function.
- Education: The physiotherapist can also provide education about the specific condition, helping patients understand how movement can positively influence their symptoms and avoid re-injury. Patients are given guidance on how to integrate healthy movement patterns into their daily activities too.
Individual Pilates and Pilates Classes are offered. Before joining a Pilates class, a comprehensive assessment is recommended to establish medical history, your goals for rehab, individual needs and to cover basic principles of Pilates (this cannot be covered comprehensively in a class situation). This allows me to guide you correctly along your rehab journey. I usually recommend 2-3 individual sessions (this includes the assessment) but will depend on your previous experience of Pilates and any conditions that are currently challenging you.
Knowing that the physio giving the Pilates classes knows you and your body well, will give you some confidence and allow you to take the next steps in moving towards full recovery or better management of your condition.
Whether you're navigating pregnancy, postpartum recovery, pelvic pain or menopause,
I'm here to support you in regaining confidence in your body.
